Master of Laws Program in Laws

SDG Alignment for Master of Laws Program in Laws

Overall SDG Alignment Evaluation:

The Master of Laws program is holistically designed to produce legal professionals with advanced knowledge and a strong ethical foundation to serve society. The curriculum's core philosophy, which emphasizes the integration of legal theory with practical application and social responsibility, makes it a powerful contributor to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). Through a deep focus on public law, criminal law, and procedural law, the program directly addresses the need for effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions. By examining business law and international trade, the curriculum supports SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). Furthermore, its emphasis on human rights law is central to achieving SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). As a graduate-level program, it is a flagship for SDG 4 (Quality Education) and inherently fosters the collaborations essential for SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

Best Practices

The Master of Laws Program in Laws aims to drive Khon Kaen University's mission as a pillar of justice and sustainable development in the digital era. The program was strategically revised in 2023 to address the shortage of graduate-level lawyers with deep expertise who can comprehensively synthesize legal issues amidst a global context moving toward SDGs 2030 and borderless economic competition in the ASEAN region.
The operation therefore focuses on producing master's graduates committed to the ideology of justice, equipped with the competency to create new knowledge through a research-based process and the integration of active learning teaching methods that emphasize practical application. This is coupled with the integration of content relevant to global situations through key subjects, such as Advanced Information Technology Law and Business Innovation (IN 587 024), to support changes in the digital era and intellectual property law; ASEAN Economic Law and Policy (IN 587 019), to build understanding of regional cooperation mechanisms; and Advanced Investment Law in Natural Resources (IN 587 015), to address environmental and economic sustainability issues in ASEAN countries.
The empirical result is the creation of graduates qualified as high-level legal scholars and professionals who can work both domestically and internationally, with the capacity to analyze, synthesize, and creatively and justly propose solutions to complex legal problems.
This generated a strategic impact in a broad scope by elevating the professional standards of law and strengthening the mechanisms of the public and private sectors in the region to operate under the Rule of Law sustainably. This is thus aligned with SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, in ensuring access to justice for all and promoting strong and transparent institutions; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by producing lawyers who understand and can develop/apply law related to technology and innovation to promote sustainable development; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, in promoting regional cooperation through expertise in ASEAN law to drive shared development goals.
